“Here in Scotland, eHealth has a pivotal role in enabling a radical e-transformation in the way in which high quality integrated healthcare services are delivered efficiently and effectively to people of all ages across our country” Nicola Sturgeon MSP, Deputy First Minister and Cabinet Secretary for Health, Wellbeing and Cities Strategy eHealth Strategy, Ministerial Foreword, September 2011
With the government’s publication of a new eHealth strategy for 2011-2017 there is a firm commitment to advancing the eHealth agenda in the years to come. Departing from the process led approach of old, there is a renewed focus on benefits and outcomes, gaining a better understanding of how technology and information communication systems will facilitate improvements at the point of use leading to improvements for professionals and placing the citizen at the heart of the Scottish health care system.
The strategy identifies five core areas for priority going forward: supporting people [to communicate with the NHSS]; care integration; improving medicine safety ; enhancing the availability of information for staff, and maximising efficient working practices.
